The Democrats have long been the champion of student loan debt cancellation. Yet, on Friday when they passed their $3 trillion stimulus package, the Democrats walked back from that commitment with watered-down provisions that will little relief for those who qualify. It proves that solving the student loan debt crisis is more a political issue than conviction.
Sooner or later, members of Congress will forced to get the government out of the student loan business, stop adding to the national debt and stop trapping young people into decades of debt from a higher education system is too expensive. Ending the broken student loan system now and implementing a new way forward would be a long-lasting stimulus to millions of Georgians.
